Hen Chronicles: Add French toast to their list of favorites

Is there anything hens will not eat? In our never-ending search for snacks that will satisfy the taste buds of our trio, Liz and I have found that Nala, Stella and Snow love strawberries, apples, pears, wheat bread, yogurt, and whatever bugs (living or dead) they can get their little beaks on. So after we had French toast for breakfast recently, Liz put aside a slice for "the girls."

Why not? Why not indeed.

Predictably, they wolfed down the bits of toast that we tossed their way. In fact, I'd say this turned out to be one of their favorite treats, right up there with apple bits and yogurt (which they always manage to smear all over their faces in their haste).

Experts claim there are some foods, such as onions, that should not be fed to laying hens, if only because the taste will turn up in their eggs. So if we keep feeding our girls French toast, should I make sure there's maple syrup on the table the next time we have an omelet?
