Hen Chronicles: These eggs are the real deal

Even a little kid knows the difference between bland store-bought eggs and the more savory offerings of well-cared-for chickens that get plenty of exercise, fresh air, attention and treats.

My wife Liz occasionally gives eggs to a co-worker who’s five-year-old daughter Lily has met our three hens and hopes to get chickens of her own some day. Whenever her mom brings some of our eggs home, Lily is quick to provide her uniquely worded stamp of approval. “These eggs come from real chickens,” she says.
