Hen Chronicles: The breakfast of (feathered) champions

Our hens had a three-course breakfast this morning, which was a big deal because that's two more courses than usual. In addition to their daily ration of feed, I gave them the last of our raspberries, straight from the patch that abuts the north fence. This was followed by several slugs, which had congregated on the fence because of the weekend's heavy rainfall.

If I had thrown in a few dandelion greens (which Snow, Nellie and Hope will get later today) we would have covered what "the girls" view as their four basic food groups: a commercial feed designed for laying hens, plus fruit, greens . . . and a little something disgusting for good measure.
